What is the Music, Art & Me Program?
sing dance laugh love learn play together
The Music, Art & Me program (MAM), formerly known as the Mommie & Me Toddler Series, is an exceptional recreational and educational program of interactive classes for young children, (infant - 4 years), their parents and caregivers. Children explore creativity through various art forms in a loving atmosphere of learning and joy.
MAM is designed and taught by Allison DeSalvo who started this popular series in her own neighborhood of Park Slope, Brooklyn in 1993. Over the years, MAM has continued to provide families with unique classes that are theme oriented and give children opportunities to connect with their innate creative impulses through:
songs, music, movement, dance, art, storytelling and dramatic play
MAM classes enrich little hearts and minds, encourage development and prepare children for preschool. A variety of music is used in all classes. Traditional children's songs, multicultural folk songs and classical music nourish and stimulate children enabling them to feel the joy of the arts while learning to relate to other children in a classroom environment. Early development such as physical and vocal participation, imagination, cooperative social skills, independence and friendships emerge as a natural process.

- Awakening innate musicality, rhythm and movement
- Sparking imagination and self expression
- Stimulating emotional growth by addressing feelings in positive and creative ways
- Developing verbal expression and language

Here's a great recipe for playdough. Playing with playdough is an activity for young children that develops fine motor skills, tactile sensitivity, imagination with shapes and interactive play to name a few benefits while simply having hours of fun. You never need to buy it again since this recipe lasts a long time if covered properly and try experimenting with colors and smells. Let me know what you think.
Playdough Recipe
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups salt
6 teaspoons cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 - 4 table spoons of oil
food coloring (more or less drops for lighter or deeper color)
Directions:
Mix dry ingredients in a big pot. Add water oil and food coloring and stir or whisk until lumps are gone. Cook over medium heat and continue to stir until the dough thickens and gathers into a ball.
Roll out onto wax paper and knead with floured hands if sticky to desired texture. Allow dough to cool. Keep covered in air tight container. No need to refrigerate.
For scented playdough add several drops of lavender, peppermint, tangerine or any oil of your choice after you have kneaded the dough and it has cooled a bit. Or create your own scent. Experiment and have fun.
Enjoy playing with your homemade playdough!
