CINCO de MAYO FIESTA
SUNDAY MAY 5TH @ 5 - 6:30 PM Join the Fiesta and celebrate “Cinco de Mayo!'' Mexican culture and heritage will come to life with the return of “Nuuxakun” a children’s Mexican Folkloric Dance Group. This community-family based company will perform traditional dances of the holiday in colorful costumes culminating in a parade and pinata fun for take home treats and audience participation. Interactive activities include a classic Spanish song sing-a-long, themed face painting with creative artist Dayesla Ixtli, making paper flower garlands and egg maracas, enjoying tacos, chips and salsa. Other special guests include Mexican art and culture writer, journalist, Leticia Roa Nixon of Philatinos Media along with their director Olga Renteria, co-hosting for a bi-lingual exchange. Don’t miss this creative arts immersion experience of Mexico. The “Family Fun Arts & Culture” Series are community events hosted by the PAC Center once a season that feature curated live arts programming geared towards young audiences. Programs provide engaging, educational and authentic cultural experiences with the goal of inspiring creativity and curiosity about the world. This series encourages enrichment learning and builds diversity in our neighborhoods through exposure to performances by native artists and educators. SPRING FLING COMMUNITY DAY

Kids can make a variety of traditional and symbolic crafts, lead by Mandarin language teacher, Shujing Ding of Ding Ding Language Center, participate in a Lion Dance Parade with music, be entertained by a traditional Chinese dance performance from the Penn Chinese Dance Club.and enjoy delicious dumplings, spring rolls, fruits and fortune cookies. Celebrate Diwali’s Festival of Light!
Experience this festival of light through the traditional music, dance, art and culinary tastes of India during this joyful holiday! This cultural immersion program of traditional Indian music, dance, arts, foods and more will feature local artists. Kids can paint diyas’-clay pots, lead by Rinal Parikh and create colorful rongoli designs. The extraordinary Iyer family returns to present classical Kathak dance and Garba with sticks performed by Anita Singh and her daughter as well as a lively percussion and interactive demonstration by master musician Sriram Balasubramanian accompanied by his son and more. Participants make and take bell anklets and everyone can enjoy eating samosas and stuffing naan breads with biryani rice and tikka masala followed by sweet gulab jamun treats. The celebration culminates with a Bollywood dance party and outside fun lighting up the night with sparklers. |

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
May 5th from 5:30 - 7pm Holiday traditions will be brought to life through interactive activities such as learning a classic Mexican step-dance, making tissue paper flowers and colorful maracas, rolling tacos to eat along with chips and salsa. Children will learn about the story of the festival with local special guests: Mexican art and culture ambassador, Leticia Roa Nixon, and experience a performance by the Philadelphia's folkloric children's dance group Nuuxakun, afterward teaching the steps to the audience. We will also have a piñata filled with take home treats followed by a dance party! Geared for families with kids 2-10, this event is open to all ages.
